through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i should have never been,
i met a pretty girl,
sally may was her name,
and since that awful night,
my lifes never been the same,
through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i should have never been,
it was tuesday night,
was nine thirty, was downtown,
thought id have a beer,
and show myself around,
i was sitting at the bar,
as lonesome as can be,
when the redhead cross the bar,
started smiling back at me,
i ordered up a beer,
and thought i'd take a chance,
made my way across the bar,
to ask that girl to dance,
through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i should have never been,
one dance turned into two,
then we shut down the bar,
she said follow me,
as i walked out to my car,
we got to her house,
and hopped right in the bed,
oh how lucky a man was i,
with this pretty red head,
just when we were,
starting to have some fun,
i looked up and saw,
her husband with a gun,
through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i should have never been,
he began to scream,
and she began to cry,
and fearful for my life,
laying there was i,
when he turned his head,
out the door i ran,
running away,
just as fast as i can,
through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i should have never been,
when i made it to my car,
i thought the coast was clean,
but i couldnt ignore the sound,
of her awful scream,
through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i should have never been,
so i reached into the car,
and i pulled out my gun,
and ever since that night,
ive been out here on the run,
through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i should have never been,
through the hills,
through the hills,
cross the holler, round the bend,
theres a place,
theres a place,
that i never should have been,

trying to be my fathers son...
That ol' sun rises offly early,
when the bar don't close till 3,
and this life that im a leadin',
it's gonna be the end of me,
playing rock star in the evening,
and farm boy in the morn,
has my back feeling offly tired,
and my body feelin' offly worn,
people ask me how i do it,
i say cause it needs done,
and thats just the life im leading,
trying to be my fathers son,
when the bar don't close till 3,
and this life that im a leadin',
it's gonna be the end of me,

The tough love of the mountain...
V1
from the time that I was born,
she never made it easy.
quickly learned to climb,
the hills she lay before me.
she always gave me just enough,
so I could make it by.
but at times it was do damn tough, that,
I’d break down and cry.
V2
when I’d make it to the city, lord,
just couldn’t understand.
people afraid to do anything,
that put calluses on their hands.
I loved coming down to party,
boy, don’t get me wrong.
but it wouldn’t take me long before,
the mountain called me home.
Bridge
see me and mama nature,
we got awful tight.
surviving through the seasons,
through those cold and lonesome nights.
Chorus
the tough love of the mountain,
lord it made me who I am.
made me a survivor, yeah,
made me love the land.
she stood their tall and proud,
yeah, never seemed to change.
just rolled on through the seasons,
but always stayed the same.
through the deep snows in the winter,
and the spring times pouring rain.
from the hills I had to climb,
to the whiskey in my veins.
my feet got hard and weathered,
my steps got tried and sure.
she’d beat me like a rented mule,
but Id come back for more.
Bridge
lord with all she gave me,
I’d never change a thing.
she made me a survivor, lord,
gave me this song to sing.
Chorus
the tough love of the mountain,
lord it made me who I am.
made me a survivor, yeah,
made me love the land.
stood their tall and proud,
yeah, never seemed to change.
she’d just rolls on through the seasons,
but always stays the same.

from the hills I had to climb,
to the whiskey in my veins.
my feet got hard and weathered,
but my steps got tried and sure.
she’d beat me like a rented mule,
but Id come back for more.
V3
I guess having things the easy way,
just isn’t in my blood.
Im a sucker for a challenge,
that’s why this life I love.
I guess that’s the reason, why,
no matter where I’d roam,
it doesn't take long before,
the mountain call me home.
Bridge
see me and mama nature,
we got awful tight.
surviving through the seasons,
through those cold and lonesome nights.
Chorus
the tough love of the mountain,
lord , it made me who I am.
made me a survivor, yeah,

Answer the call...
There's a voice that you've been hearing,
Telling you that somethings wrong.
There are things that you've been seeing,
Telling you it won't be long.
There are children in the dessert dying.
mothers in their backyards crying.
leaders on their soapboxes lying.
As you sit there and listen to the words of this song.
And there's a voice that you've been hearing.
Telling you that somethings wrong.
There are things that you've been seeing,
Telling you it won't be long.
Our mother earth cries to us,
trying to get us to hear.
she tells us we've lost our ways,
but we just turn a death ear.
She shakes us with earthquakes,
pours down flooding rains,
and yet we still dont want to hear.
So now her tears of oil bleed into our oceans,
painting us with our shame,
but yet those of us far enough away, laugh at this dirty game,
as we still keep marching on as if their is nothing to fear.
There's a voice that you've been hearing,
Telling you that somethings wrong.
There are things that you've been seeing,
Telling you it won't be long.
Their are threats to our freedom,
that come from a different voice.
They teach us that we must follow them,
as if we don't have a choice.
Their and blinded ones following,
as their song has such a ring,
filled with promises of brighter days.
But beneath all the glittered promises,
lies the truth of more of the same.
There's a voice that you've been hearing,
Telling you that somethings wrong.
There are things that you've been seeing,
Telling you it won't be long.
So if you are listening,
maybe it's time you answered the call.
Stood up for your freedoms,
and told them that it won't be long.
For the truth is not always the most popular song.
But those who walk with it, are walking where they belong.
And if the words speak to you, there are things to do, do dont sit and let this time fade.
Stand up for the riteous blood will never be spilled in vein.
There's a voice that you've been hearing,
Telling you that somethings wrong.

just give me one last ride
it was hard to see him laying there,
he looked like he'd been through hell,
the scars and bruises all over him,
told the story very well,
they said it'd been an awful crash,
must have been going a hundred and twelve,
when them semi trailer had cut him off,
and sent him over that guard rail,
i tried to fight the tears back,
as i sat down to say goodbye,
and could swear i heard a enginer purr,
as he opened up his eyes,
he looked at me and could see my fear,
so he tried to calm me down,
he laughed and said well wheres the booze,
ive got some pain i need to drown,
and he said hey man this is the end,
i aint gonna make it to your show,
ive got a restless soul that was born to ride,
and its my time to go,
then he said but there is one thing i gotta ask you to do,
man you gotta get me out of here i dont wanna die in this room,
he looked over at the window seal and said i need some air,
prop that window open so i can breathe,
and help me to that chair,
he fought with all that he could give,
as i took him by the arm,
and as he got close to the window he started to sing a song,
he said...
I ain't praying for tomorrow.
No I dont want back yesterday.
I just wanna beg still or borrow,
just Whats left of today.
lord i know that Im leaving.
I know that it's my time.
But with the last few breaths Im breathing.
Lord all im asking,
is give me just one last ride.
and as he said these words to me,
he rose up out that chair,
and it seemed like angels had lifted him,
as he floated through that air,
that room must have been 20 stories high,
as he went falling down,
and you could hear that engine purring again,
just before he hit the ground,
he said...
I ain't praying for tomorrow.
No I dont want back yesterday.
I just wanna beg still or borrow,
just Whats left of today.
